Sustainability in Agriculture:
We address critical areas such as renewable energy use, organic farming, and water/soil conservation. For instance, we encourage farms to adopt renewable energy sources – like solar panels to power irrigation pumps or greenhouse systems – thereby reducing reliance on fossil fuels and lowering the carbon footprint. In our projects, we have piloted solar-powered drip irrigation systems that cut energy costs and emissions. We also promote organic farming techniques, which involve using natural compost and biological pest control (from partners like Koppert) instead of synthetic fertilizers and pesticides. This not only yields healthier crops but also preserves soil health and biodiversity in the long run.
Soil and water conservation are another pillar of our sustainable approach. Techniques such as crop rotation, cover cropping, and no-till farming are recommended to our clients to maintain soil structure and fertility. We implement water-saving irrigation methods (drip irrigation, soil moisture sensors, rainwater harvesting) to use water judiciously, a crucial factor in arid regions like Qatar. By capturing and recycling irrigation water in greenhouse projects, we significantly cut down water waste. These practices ensure that farming can continue for generations without degrading the natural resources it depends on.
